Statement by Jody Williams to the 70th UNGA First Committee on Disarmament and International Security

This statement was delivered by Jody Williams, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, to delegates attending the 70th UN General Assembly (UNGA) First Committee on Disarmament and International Security. The statement provides a brief overview of work done so far at the CCW, expresses concerns about the slow progress, and urges states to step up their deliberations by agreeing to a more tangible and ambitious outcome-oriented mandate ahead of the CCW’s Fifth Review Conference in December 2016.
